  • BEFORE!
    The Linotype mouthpiece has been removed but the holes remain, THIS IS NOT NORMAL.
    AFTER!
    This is after the throat has been sawn out but before the flushing of the remaining trash.
    TRASH!
    And THIS is the trash that came out of the throat, This comes from re-using dirty metal and not cleaning the crucible properly.
    SQUIRT GUARD!
    This is a Bonkrud Squirt Guard. When it is installed it helps keep the metal from getting on an operator if you have a front squirt, it works with Linotype and Intertype.
  • BEFORE!
    This machine was under 3 feet of water for six days at The Overland Trail Museum in Sterling, CO in 2013.
    AFTER!
    This is a running fully functional Intertype after a 3 month rebuild by Beth and I. We also cleaned and reconditioned 22 other pieces of printing equipment during this time frame.
    Ludlow Mouthpiece just removed, BEFORE cleaning! The customer was not getting a very usable slug!
    AFTER cleaning and removing the broken screws it is now ready for a new mouthpiece to be installed!
  • Mr. Oily as I was called by Jessica Spring - Cleaning out the oil holes on a C&P at The Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA
    Linotype and/or Intertype pot well cleaning and resizing! We do this a couple of times every few years.
    When doing a Linotype and/or Intertype mouthpiece lock-up, this is the impression that you want!
    This is a very dirty Ludlow plunger well, BEFORE cleaning, I forgot to take an AFTER shot. Signs of a dirty well include plunger hard to take out and put back in after cleaning.

David and Beth Seat

My wife Beth and I travel 48 states servicing Letterpress equipment. I have been doing this since 1995 and then Beth joined me in 2007. I have worked in letterpress since 1971 and Beth has since the early 70's as well. I was born, raised and still live in the Nashville, TN area, Beth was born in Colorado and moved to California when she was 17 and then to Tennessee in 2007. Where she is finally at home.
